Doubled Geometry and T-Folds
نویسنده
چکیده
The doubled formulation of string theory, which is T-duality covariant and enlarges spacetime with extra coordinates conjugate to winding number, is reformulated and its geometric and topological features examined. It is used to formulate string theory in T-fold backgrounds with T-duality transition functions and a quantum implementation of the constraints of the doubled formalism is presented. This establishes the quantum equivalence to the usual sigma-model formalism for worldsheets of arbitrary genus, provided a topological term is added to the action. The quantisation involves a local choice of polarisation, but the results are independent of this. The natural dilaton of the doubled formalism is duality-invariant and so Tduality is a perturbative symmetry for the perturbation theory in the corresponding coupling constant. It is shown how this dilaton is related to the dilaton of the conventional sigma-model which does transform under T-duality. The generalisation of the doubled formalism to the superstring is given and shown to be equivalent to the usual formulation. Finally, the formalism is generalised to one in which the whole spacetime is doubled.

The Effect of Lower Detachment Zone on Buckle Folds Geometry
Buckle folds are common traps for hydrocarbon in several contractional provinces. Buckle folds form where stratified sequences rest a top salt or some other utterly weak rock as a decollemet zone in units with high competency contrasts by a compressive stress which acted along the length of the rock layers. An important parameter affecting buckle folding of a competent zone above a mobile decol...
متن کاملFolding Geometry Surveys of Asef Mountain, Northern Shiraz (Southwestern Folded Zagros Belt)
In this paper the geometrical relationship of the folds which exist in the Folded Zagros Mountains, including Asef Mountain (northern Iran), were studied. The southern and western zones of the Zagros Mountains are called the Folded Zagros. These zones extend approximately 1,375 km in length with a width ranging from 120 to 250 km. Asef Mountain is located in northern Shiraz (from northern Sarda...
متن کاملGeneralised T-Duality and Non-Geometric Backgrounds
We undertake a systematic analysis of non-geometric backgrounds in string theory by seeking stringy liftings of a class of gauged supergravity theories. In addition to conventional flux compactifications and non-geometric T-folds with T-duality transition functions, we find a new class of non-geometric backgrounds with non-trivial dependence on the dual coordinates that are conjugate to the str...
متن کاملD-branes in T-fold conformal field theory
We investigate boundary dynamics of orbifold conformal field theory involving Tduality twists. Such models typically appear in contexts of non-geometric string compactifications that are called monodrofolds or T-folds in recent literature. We use the framework of boundary conformal field theory to analyse the models from a microscopic world-sheet perspective. In these backgrounds there are two ...
متن کاملStructural overview of the Halab-Gheydar area, southwest of Zanjan, NW Iran
Understanding the folding style of a fold-thrust belt is crucial to understand the nature and structural history of structures that may trap natural resources within the belt. In this research, the geometry and mechanism of a number of fault-related folds has been investigated based on field data and satellite image interpretations. The main study areas are: the Sohrevard and Ushtaniyan anticli...
